Painting & New Flooring
May 4th, 2023
Another day, another amazing group of volunteers. Thanks to Cork Tree Creative for coming out today and helping to paint and install flooring at this local veteran’s home. He and his wife absolutely LOVE the changes that you guys have made. You are incredible.
We also installed a new ceiling fan, kitchen light and hallway light. The homeowners are incredibly happy with the way everything turned out.

We finished up another wheelchair ramp today – thanks to Zach for helping get it wrapped up. We had to work this on an angle, which is not always fun to do, but it came out great. The homeowner was thrilled.
Thanks, as always to the Agency for Community Transit for your ongoing support.
Safety Fencing Installed for Veteran

We were contacted by a building inspector because he had to cite a 78-year-old veteran for an unsafe situation on his property. The veteran had already fallen off the retaining wall, knocked himself out and had to get surgery on his shoulder; so, the situation was really unsafe. When we did a site visit and met with the homeowners, they asked if they could pay us in installments, because they couldn’t afford to get it fixed. When I explained that we would do the work for free, she started crying, he started crying and I started tearing up also. They absolutely loved the final outcome.

Wheelchair Ramp for Chair Bound Teen in Foster Care
May 25th, 2023
We received a call from DCFS about a 15-year-old boy who was wheelchair bound due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy. They asked if we could help. He and his sister are in a foster home, and he has to be carried into the house. He is going to have back surgery soon to help stabilize and straighten out his spinal cord – he’ll never walk, but this will help him breathe better. Today was the first time that he was able to get out of the house without being carried up the stairs. Thanks for your help, Abraham. Much thanks to Whitney at Foundation 6141 for sponsoring this project.

Our 10th Wheelchair Ramp of the Season!
May 27th, 2023
BEFORE
AFTER
We completed another wheelchair ramp today – this is the 10th of the season, so far. Thanks to the AMAZING help of Andrei, Lindsey and Aidan, this one was completed in record time. I had someone ask me how much it would cost to build a simple ramp like this one. If you can find someone to do it, a ramp like this one cost around $5,000 to have one built. These are not just home improvements; they are life improvements. As always, thanks to the Agency for Community Transit (ACT) for your continued support.
