Thanks to the great folks at Olin Winchester, Paul, Chuck and Parth. It was a hot one today, but we started and finished a wheelchair ramp for a disabled senior in under 5 hours. It turned out great. “Two More Days, Two More Wheelchair Ramps…”
May 4th, 2024
Two more days, two more wheelchair ramps…two more living situations made better. Both for veterans. Thanks to Larry and the soldiers from Scott Air Force Base for your help. Thanks to the Home Depot for partnering with us on the wooden ramp and thanks to the Agency for Community Transit for your continued support. #teamdepot #rebuildtogether
We also installed new railings and balusters on the deck itself.
What Goes into Building A Ramp?
May 10th, 2024
We did a couple more wheelchair ramps this week. Someone asked me what all goes in to building a ramp. First, you have to take really good measurements to figure out how long the ramp is going to be. For every inch of height, it needs to be a foot long. 20 inches off the ground, 20 feet long. After the plans are drawn up and the paperwork is complete, a permit is gotten in whatever city we are working. After we schedule the project, we have to call JULIE to mark the electric, gas, cable, etc., utility lines on the property and then we have to order the materials and line up the volunteers to help out. It’s a lot of work before we even begin working on the actual project. The ramps make such a huge difference in homeowner’s lives; we enjoy doing them. Thanks to the Agency for Community Transit for your continued support for this very impactful program.

Small Projects in Alton & Bethalto
May 22nd, 2024
I’m behind in posting (again), here’s a couple of the projects that we’ve gotten done the past week or so. In Granite City, we replaced the subfloor and flooring in a bathroom that had been rotting out for a while. We also helped a homeowner demo her bathroom paneling in Alton.
And we built a small wheelchair ramp for a disabled senior in Bethalto. Thanks to the many volunteers who come out and help us and thanks to the Agency for Community Transit for your continued support.
Big Project with the Help of Scott Air Force Base
May 26th, 2024
In between all of the rain that we’ve been having, we did a big project the past few days. Thanks to the volunteers: Eron and Anthony and the amazing soldiers at Scott Air Force Base (Andrea, Robert, Robin, Viv and Carter) for helping out with this big project. We painted pretty much the whole interior, installed new flooring in the laundry room, installed a new screen door, new steps off of the back deck and also replaced an unsafe wheelchair ramp. The homeowners are thrilled with the results. As always, thanks to the Agency for Community Transit for your continued support for our wheelchair program in Madison County. #rebuildingtogether
